Tue, February 14, 2006 - 8:25 AMDan Zhang displayed more guts than any athelete I've ever seen. That HAD to have hurt beyond anything any of us mere mortals could ever know. She shook it off and won a Silver. I thought her leg was broken at first. I can't believe she went back out there. She ROCKS!!! -

Re: riotgrrrlz in torino!
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 9:23 AMI'll have to see it, but as much as I admire her, i have to wonder how you get a silver with that big of a mistake... i mean, plucky as hell, but you aren't supposed to get medals for pluckiness or sympathy... you are supposed to get them on performance only...
i mean, were they THAT far ahead on all their other performances
how did they get one when the American pair, blondie and china girl, didn't even though they COMPLETED a triple throw axle in their program on Friday and very nearly did last night?
I didn't see it all, just a bit on the news this mornign, so I don't know what happened... I'm just asking but it seems unbelievable that anyone could get a silver medal after a mistake as huge as what I saw this morning... feels like maybe they got a sympathy/you got guts medal... and I'm not trying to be callous at all, but that's not the criteria for a medal in the olympics
can you enlighten me on something I may have missed? -

Re: riotgrrrlz in torino!
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 9:33 AMThey were second coming into the long program and other than that fall, which only counted against them on that jump, they skated a near mistake free program. All of the medal winners had mistakes and marks were taken off. They scored really low on the technical marks but did well for composition. When you add it up, combined with the short program, it put them in second place. I thought it was fair. They had a really high score coming in and didn't need to skate a fantastic program anyway. -

Re: riotgrrrlz in torino!
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 9:36 AMokay... that makes sense to me... I mean, I'm glad they got it, what she went through, but it should be for the right reasons, and it sounds like it was
I'm still not sure how the couple who made an historic move got left out of it though? I thought they were underscored when they did that move on Friday night... -

Re: riotgrrrlz in torino!
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 9:46 AMI didn't see it, but the articles I've read said that they just didn't do well in other areas. And last night, they did an average performance.
