OMG!! Is anyone else seeing this bite from the press conference? They were going at it!!!

Shani gets all over Chad first "we are teammates, we are going for the same thing, it would be nice if he could have shook my hand after I won the gold...."

Chad, sits there for like 30 seconds grinning in that way you do when you are embarrassed and dumbfounded and you are trying not to show that you are angry, sits there saying nothing... looking at Shani, then looking back to his right, laughing low, then looking at Shani, then looking back....

finally he comes back with... "not only would he not participate in the team event, he didn't even give me the respect of discussing it with me... i think we could have had another medal...."

um, well, I don't know what up here, but i will say this... whatever the tension has been, i hadn't heard chad say anything snide about shani... not until he was provoked like he was here... (and of course, I have not heard or read everything said in Torino... )

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not so good for Team USA spirit to have this sort of drama queen nonsense going on...

shani is done with his events, and chad has one more--the 10,000--so i guess there will not be too many more opportunities for them to butt heads...

yikes! that was painful to watch! i actually cringed that silence was deafening

Hedrick was out front a month ago saying how he was gonna win five golds and beat Heiden's record. Hubris had him running some kind of pre-olympic pr campaign and he ended up writing a check his ass couldn't cash.
Team pursuit is a new event . I don't think it was contested at the last world championships. I do wonder when the team was established, after the US trials? This whole idea that one skater blew the another skaters chance by not choosing to compete for is bullshit. If there must be a blame game, lay it on the cat that couldn't hang on in the end since he was actually racing or hang it on the coaching staff for not having the team in order on time. Why not go after the US Speedskating federation for not being able to handle the bright lights big city; They've shown nothing but poor form for most any skater not from West Allis.
These two skaters were going to compete against each other anyway. Should one have dropped out so the other could win five golds and get a media blow job from NBC and Laura Bush? I don't think Hedrick even had the most compelling story. He's just another loud mouth Texan who couldn't even win his individual events.
He asked whether the other skater would race FOR him in the pursuit. The guy responded with a no and a good reason, he's trying to win in his specialties and doesn't want the extra distance. Sounds to me like a sensible strategy.
<<pouty whine>> "Well it's your fault I don't get five gold medals Shani! Harumph..."
    Well boo-fucking-hoo Chad, boo-fucking-hoo.

lol well, agreed... but that wasn't exactly my point..... shani called him out publicly at a news conference... whatever is going on between them, that's NOT cool...

chad was flustered as I pointed out, he spent about 30 seconds sitting there stunned after that nasty comment was made, and i think he just blurted something out finally to alleviate the silence.... i mean chad was genuinely floored and I don't blame him... he had good reason to be upset...

oh, and chad did win a gold medal in one of his event's, so he might be a braggart but he's not a total slouch

don't get me wrong, i think shani is awesome... & I agree he isn't obligated to do any team event if it might jeopardize his solo events...i just think it's unfortunate and wrong that he made their private feud a public event

When he called in the Prez'nit's wife before the games, he set the stage. Once again, the federation and coaches should've done sumpin' before the press conference or di'n't the coaches know?

not sure about the president's wife thing????

and well, i think the coaches probably knew there was bad blood there, but they can't control what an athelete says at a press conference or to the medial in general

even if the coaches specifically told them NOT to make and snide remarks, it doesn't mean they aren't gonna do it once they have the mic

the coaches can't control what their atheletes say... it's just not possible... just ask Andy Reid!!! LOL

I like both these atheletes very much, and they both could have taken a higher road on this stuff, but I still think it was totally not cool for Shani to say that during a press conference... he fired the first shot--from what i've seen and heard--- and that's not okay, that stuff should be kept private i think

and again, as I said in another thread.. up until chad responded to that nasty comment last night, i never heard him bitch about shani not participating in the team event..... he said it was up to shani and he wasn't going to beg him and that shani needed to do whatever he needed to do

just ASKING shani to participate doesn't constitute whining or bitching...it's just asking

I think its a shame when stuff like this happens... they are both great and i wish they'd keep the dirty laundry in the linen closet, that's all...

"I'm not going to beg Shani..." at a press conf. constitutes whining....

hmmmmmmmmm i suppose it could be....

but then what could he say when he kept getting pressed by the media? its sort of like when they kept harping on Shani about being the first African-American individual gold medal winner ya know?

They kept asking and pressuring him about it.... "why won't shani do the team with you?" over and over again... and he probably snapped a bit, yes... as in "for the millionath time, i asked him, he doesn't want to do it and he has to do what he thinks is best for him, i'm not going to beg him...."

I can sort of see how it would pop out that way after being asked the same question 8 thousand times... frustration

maybe the real problem here is the media... pressing and re hashing and not letting things die down....

I like them both and I think they both should take higher ground... I don't think Shani has behaved any better than Chad... I won't sit here and say Chad is a whiner and Shani has done nothing wrong.... nor vice versa.... I'm not going to defend Chad, but I don't think Shani should be defended either... they both are behaving pretty badly, I think

Shani's done now, and Chad has one more event, so maybe it will finally be let go

now see? why can't we all just get along?

I think it's sad to have the events tarnished with this sort of stuff.... and the more i think about it, though both of them could have behaved better, it's really about the glare of the media... being under a microscope constantly, gettting asked the same questions over and over again

so that little things that irritated you maybe just a little, that you might easily have just let go, keep getting thrown in your face over and over again, they won't let you forget, won't let you just let it go.... it's like a constant itch they put on you and after awhile you have to scratch it...

i'm sure they'd both prefer to have been left alone to compete in their events in peace

lol hey, Chad has the world record in the 10,000 meter so it IS possible he will do well....

but like i said I think most of the problem here is having the media constantly crawling up their asses... who's not gonna blow up when they get asked the same thing over and over again? it's like swatting at a fly that keeps coming back... at first you barely notice, then you get a little annoyed, then you get very annoyed, then you get downright angry!

just leave the guys alone and let them skate!

I think they are BOTH awesome!

okay, roger, I don't like favoritism either, and THATS why I think Ricky should get slammed for breaking the drug rules of the NFL (IF he did break them) not because I think it's a big deal to smoke grass, not because I don't like him, but because ANY OTHER NON FAMOUS PERSON would have had the dick slapped out of their mouth over this a looooooooooong time ago... like after the first infraction... and this is his fourth... see what I mean?

everyone over there, thinks its' because I don't like him or because I think pot should be illegal NO! that's not it at all... it's all about fairness and favoritism, I don't think celebs should get such special treatment all the time, THEREFORE he should get punished just the same as you or i would... that's all i'm sayin

Roger, Roget, Rogerrino.... I know you know that I know where you're coming from. I can tell by the cut of your jib and, amigo, I like the cut of your jib. My jib is vaguely similar.
Once every four years, a bunch of old White guys, decide to throw a festival of sports. On a very decent level, this a good and mete and noble thing to do with one's excess. A potlach of sports to promote "altius, fortius, citius" and sunshine and flag teams and bands and civic/regional/national pride ( One of my favorite words, that is not quite englishable, is the Italian word, "campagniellisme"; a chauvinism or allegience to a locale defined by the ability to hear the church bells....ah, bella Italia.....) Part of the human condition, as surely as compassion, is competition.

well, last night they showed the medal ceremony for the men's 1500... shani got silver and chad got bronze....

and chad swallowed his pride and extended the olive branch.... he leaned across the podium and shook shani's hand... shani actually looked stunned

he spoke to a reporter this morning... talking about how the camararderie of the USA team and showing sportsmanship was a more important thing for people to see, esp those impressionable young kids, than who was winning and losing

                              HERE HERE!!!

I think it took some guts for Chad to do that... not many people can suck up their pride in public like that, which is basically admitting he was wrong and trying to correct it

plus he's such a cutie pie!
