I can't think of any Olympian that has been more hyped this year than Bode Miller. You love him because he parties all night and then can ski balls-out all day. He had 5 events, which he could have won a medal but he walked away with none. Can too much hype hurt an athlete? I can name 5 US Olympic athletes that have won medals and are more deserving of our attention:
1. Shani Davis - Skating
2. Shaun White - Snowboarding
3. Apollo Ohno - Skating
4. Sasha Cohen - Figure Skating
5. Seth Wescott - Snowboard Cross

Re: Why waste time on Bode Miller?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 2:10 AMlet's not forget Chad Hedrick, who won more medals than any USA male in Torino oh, and only two US men in Olympic (winter) history have won as many or more....
or Evan Lysacek who didn't win a medal but ROCKS! he embodies the total olympic spirit, overcoming adversity even when you have no reason ,even when you have no chance of a medal plus he's a gifted skater... look for him in Vancouver
as to Bode Miller, his acrobatics in his DNF race prove how great a skier he is...
and, Bobby, if I talked about the SI swimsuit models the way you talk about Bode, you'd just say i was jealous...
but what have they contributed to society except getting paid $10,000 an hour to sit around and do NOTHING... thanks to nothing but genetic good fortune... something they did not earn.. but was a gift of nature... oh and make your dick hard, naturally...
Bode Miller has at least worked at something that takes skill and effort and talent and work... whether he won a medal or not..... he failed at the olympics you might say... but he is a world cup champion after all
oh, and he gets me hot just like the swimsuit models do for you... and that's enough for me to dig him and do him ; )
think before you shoot your mouth (or key board) off.... Bode Rocks with a capital ROCK!! -

Sun, February 26, 2006 - 8:54 AM(The Olympic Committee) obviously aware of reports from the Alpine venues of Miller's late-night tequila shots at the Irish Igloo.
At least he a good time. -

Re: Why waste time on Bode Miller?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 11:46 AMEXACTLY!! and he's hot! and that is NEVER a waste of time...
he's also a great skier... I love the Olympics but it's not the only measure of ability... i think what b is saying is exactly the attitude to get away from... you are the world champion of your sport, but you didn't medal in the olympic? then you ain't shit
this is what Bode, and also Apolo have been saying for the whole games.... and I concur
the media overhypes things, yes, and it always creates problems... i don't think the Chad vs Shani thing would have been nearly as explosive as it was without the constant media prying
speaking of them... I think they are both fantastic atheletes and i love them both, but if medals are your measure, the standard by which we are judging, i find it odd that people are going "shani, shani, shani!" when chad won more medals and joey cheek won just as many
man oh man was i ever DRUNK last night.... can you tell? LOL

Re: Why waste time on Bode Miller?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 11:58 AMoh angel, i'm just a little bit annoyed with bode... his attitude after he messed up in the slalom just disappointed me... i don't think he has much respect for the games as a whole... i understand the whole "i do things my own way" attitude... and respect that... i really do...
but it's a bit hard to swallow his "don't bother me, i have my own inner goals that matter more than the worldly things" attitude when he poses for all the magazine covers and allows nike to turn him into their money whore... i don't know... i just find it all a bit hard to swallow when coupled with his crap attitude towards the olympics and when you hear and read about olympians that worked so hard to be there...
to me the heroes of these games will be shaun white, shani williams, joey cheek, irina slutskaya, ted liggety, hannah teeter, kelly clark, clara hughes, julia mancuso, jared peterson, apolo ohno, vonetta flowers, tugba karademir and so many that i cannot name at the moment...
i feel for miller in alot of his views... i just wish he could have behaved with a little more reverence for what the olympics mean... -

Re: Why waste time on Bode Miller?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 12:46 PMoh hell yeah... the boy has some attitude problems for sure!! and I don't like the whole Nike thing, given him always going on about how the media is evil and he doesn't give a shit and blah blah blah
he has inconsistencies/contradictions in his philosophical stance.... (but who doesn't? I mean, i don't know anyone who has and always lives by their philosophical and spiritual stance... not me for sure!)
so I guess i gotta go with half and half on this issue... i think he believes what he says, but i also think he's been turned into a pile of media chum fit for a feeding frenzy... and he let that happen... but i think it's gotten more out of control than he anticipated... sort of takes on a a life of it's own, and once it's rolling it's very hard to stop it
i do think his attitude could be better.... partying the night before you ski is one thing, being impolite and snotty is another... the first i have no problem with, but the second...
and do I believe that he truly didn't want a medal? no... of course he wanted one and i'm sure he's disappointed that he didn't get one...but I also like the idea that it shouldn't be all about the medals...
i like your list of athletes too... more embodying of the Olympic spirit as you say... but noone in here every seems to list two of my faves... Chad Hedrick and ESP Evan Lysacek
He truly showed the "Olympics aren't all about the medals" spirit...... much more than Bode Miller my god i LOVES me some Evan
but this sorry performance, on and off the slopes, at the olympics doesn't mean he's a bad skier overall... he's one of the top in the world....
and I'm thinking, hoping anyway, that this experience taught him something... if he chooses to, he could take a lot of valuable lessons away from this
so bottom line I guess, one of the prime things i like about Bode, is he's hot as a pistol
yes, it's shallow i guess... to overlook flaws for that reason... but as I sorta of said above, men do it all the time... Jennifer Lopez fer instance is a flat out prima donna bitch from all I've heard and seen... but what would most men say (and if not about her than about some other prima donna hottie) "so what? she's HOT!!!!"
so I'll say the same about Bode... so what? He's hot!! LOL -

Re: Why waste time on Bode Miller?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 12:57 PMoh yeah... jeret peterson? he got kicked out of Tornino the day after he won his medal for getting in a brawl... he isn't even going to be in the closing ceremonies
don't get me wrong i like him, too... his performance in the games was amazing... but i don't exactly think that's the Olympic Spirit either...
i mean, let's face it, a lot (not all) of these atheletes, particularly in skiing, mainly a sport of the wealthy, grew up privileged and spoiled and used to getting their way all the time.. then they get very good at what they do and they get even more attention and are allowed even more leeway...
this has been a by product of fame and wealth from time immemorium, as the saying goes...
most fall into it, sadly... but i admire the hell out of those who don't... who stay humble and kind and respectul but they are the minority
